FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL: Magnus Opus and Exigence > Medical Spanish: A Beginner’s Guide to a Bilingual Hospital

Working Title
Medical Spanish: A Beginner’s Guide to a Bilingual Hospital

Audience
Medical professionals

Context
The amount of Spanish-speaking medical professionals is incommensurate to the amount of Spanish-speaking patients there are in need of medical attention. Too often, Spanish-speakers are intimidated by the system and are uncomfortable seeking the attention they need because of the language barrier. Spanish-speaking medical professionals help abridge the disconnect that Spanish-speaking patients may feel. If a medical professional is not bilingual, it is important to have a basic understanding of the other culture/language. This way, patients will be able to feel comfortable and confident in their medical attention.

Purpose
In this document, I hope to provide medical professionals a basic guide on how to interact with Spanish-speakers. I will first describe cultural competency, so that medical professionals know what to expect and how to cater to the cultural needs of Spanish-speaking patients. Then, I will focus on basic vocabulary that will help medical professionals at least be able to obtain basic information from the patient. Following the vocabulary section, I will provide the medical professionals with various programs and apps they can use to further aid them throughout the patient visit.

S, I would just modify a bit to reflect your emerging authority and need to use medical Spanish yourself You can write as a guide for yourself, too. In other words, imagine yourself about five to seven years in the future. Either this can be a seminar paper for you AND other medical professionals in a rotation; or you can imagine this to be a guide to orient new people to a practice or care group. Subtle but important detail that will make this easier for your to draft.

The last part of your document can be a curated list of resources to learn medical Spanish: programs, web resources, classes, even a phone app for reference.
