FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL: Magnus Opus and Exigence > Insect Consumption in the Modern World

Audience: Anybody interested in vegetarianism/veganism but concerned about diet, environmentally-conscious people, or simply anybody intrigued by the idea of consuming insects (entomophagy).

Context: The world population is growing at a rate at which current food production practice will not be able to sustain in the near future. One way to alleviate this problem is through entomophagy, since insects are proven to have relatively high nutritional value and efficient return.

Purpose: Establishing the concept of entomophagy is a first step to introducing the practice into the Western world. This paper will show some already present or common examples that exist today.

Document type: Informative paper on benefits of and different examples of entomophagy.

Design/format: The information will be divided into different sections, such as global instances of entomophagy, Western instances, etc.

Citation style: The majority will be referral links since the paper is not intended to be research/data-heavy.

This topic sounds extremely interesting. I am not necessarily interested in eating insects, but I would definitely be interested in learning about research conducted on their nutritional value. If the paper began with some research on the nutritional info of insects, I think that could go a long way in increasing the ethos and making the paper even more intriguing for readers.

P is suggesting that you address the utilitarian aspects of this emerging food option. That requires, then, that you develop the scope and size of our impending food crisis. Climate scenarios make food insecurity even more exigent.

Look at the IPPCC reports, regarding climate and food insecurity. Also, see what FAO says, too.

Let's think about a document type so that this does not sound too much like a report. Look at Smithsonian Magazine articles, to see if that is a good model.

This sounds like a fun read! Following PS, I'd be curious to know if there's any information out on what kinds of insects are most nutritious/palatable. Also, how are they consumed - cooked, raw, ground up?
