FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL: Magnus Opus and Exigence > Testing Surface Plasmon Resonance of Gold and Silver Nanoparticles at Different Temperatures

Working Title: Testing Surface Plasmon Resonance of Gold and Silver Nanoparticles at Different Temperatures

Audience: Fellow Chemistry laboratory students exploring Nanoparticles, as well as the lab instructor who will be evaluation the overall success of the project.

Context: In a past laboratory, we made six sizes of silver nanoparticles. One of the biggest aims was to achieve particles that have shifts in their wavelengths. This shift in wavelength would be due to the difference in concentration of the silver in each particle size. This experiment was done without the addition of heat -- at room temperature. As a final project, working in groups of four, we are exploring the effects of temperature on nanoparticles. We are making gold nanoparticles in the presence of heat, to compare to the silver nanoparticles, in the absence of heat.
Purpose: To compare gold and silver nano particle resonance using the collected absorption spectra. We will also be able to compare the silver nanoparticles synthesized under heat to the ones we synthesized without heat in a different experiment.
