FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL: Magnus Opus and Exigence > Emergency Situations for the College Good Samaritan

Audience:
A lay audience, specifically college students

Context:
Not everyone knows what steps to take if you witness a possible emergency occurring, such as cardiac arrest, unconscious person, seizure, fainting, broken bones, or extreme intoxication. This document would give a baseline intro to what to look for and what to do/not do in various possible scenarios, most of which are not life or death things but can be nerve wracking to see.

Purpose:
To instruct/educate

Document type:
A collection of directions within a narration/explanation of situations that college students could find themselves in, and what it’s possible to do in a couple minutes without any professional tools or trained techniques

Design/format:
Document (pdf)

Citation style:
Definitely a combination, primarily natural language and referral links. It would be good to shout out some higher level sources that are a good next step if you want to delve deeper into it, and there’s some great articles and videos out there which would be valuable to link especially when it's a topic that's difficult to describe without seeing it.

S, this is a perfect way to share your expertise and help others. I would write this anonymously, perhaps. Ask me more about this.

You can look at the Ask Alice website, too, to see how they address emergencies with college students. Also, the tone here might be one to follow.

You can think of our class as an audience. Also, perhaps, a booster shot for students with responsibilities: campus tour guides, RA and residential life workers, student athletes, band members.

Can you include heat exhaustion, too?

Looking forward to this. I would assume that you will write a series of directions, with good opening "scenes" and definitions.

You can ask students if they see portable defibrillators on campus or narcan kits.....
