Audience: This document is intended for college students seeking summer research internships.
Context: Internships are a valuable method of gaining experience in a field before committing to a career. Not only are they incredibly educational, they can embellish a resume and appeal to professional schools and employers. Finding an internship as an inexperienced college student can be challenging, however, as it can be difficult to figure out how to properly contact and communicate with researchers.
Purpose: The purpose of this document is to provide a guide to students that are seeking research internships, to clarify the confusing and challenging aspects of securing an internship position.
Document Type: Informative Guide
Design/Format: The document will start with a brief introduction that describes what an internship is and why they are valuable. It will then transition into a section that details how to apply to internship programs, and another that details how to contact research mentors by email or phone call.
Citation Style: APA, natural language, and referral links will be used to cite information
