FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL: Magnus Opus and Exigence > A UMD Computer Science Student's Guide to Choosing Upper Level Electives
I,
I assume that this means we have a disconnect between students and advising. You face some sensitivities about this, concerning campus and I have ideas about how to do this. You can consider this an underground guide or as a more polite document of feedback to advising staff.
Are your goals-as-selection drivers really career paths? Be clear and open about this. Can you find four or five pathways to use to both organize and limit the guide?
And, how will you share this much-needed information?

Audience: This document is addressed towards undergraduate computer science students at the University of Maryland who are in the process of choosing upper level electives
Context: The process of selecting upper level electives is a confusing and stressful process for many computer science students. Every student has different goals for their undergraduate studies in terms of the areas they want to specialize in, the types of jobs they want to be prepared for, the rigor of the courseload, etc. so a comprehensive guide outlining all of these topics would be extremely valuable to students.
Purpose: To educate students so they can make the most informed decision when registering for upper level elective classes. By having a solid understanding over their options, students will be able to make a choice that is most relevant for their own aspirations.
Document Type: Student Guide
Design/Format: The document will first introduce the requirements imposed by the University in selecting upper level electives to make sure every reader has a certain amount of baseline knowledge. The bulk of the document will then have distinct sections that present categorizations of the types of electives offered by the University, with different sections highlighting different electives as more beneficial toward achieving certain goals. Finally, the document will wrap up with a summary/conclusion section that offers a high level overview of the ideas discussed.
Citation Style: APA citations as well as referral links and natural language citations where appropriate
