FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL: Magnus Opus and Exigence > Power and Resolve: How to start and stick with a strength training program.

Audience:
Beginner to intermediate weightlifters, especially those needing extra help either starting at first or starting again after stopping.

Context:
Like many things in life, training in the gym brings along growth slowly but surely. This ratio of high work to little immediate reward is what dissuades people from starting or continuing a strength training program. Many people training in the gym, especially newbies, have exaggerated expectations of getting big fast, and are often discouraged when this is not the case. Not knowing the proper diet and training techniques only exacerbates this problem.

Purpose:
This document will provide specific guidance and encouragement pertaining to correct dieting and strength training. The aim of the document is to make it as easy as possible for someone to effectively gain strength and size while giving them motivation to stick it through. The document will use specific examples, facts, research, and advice to give the reader the maximum amount of knowledge possible while keeping the document reader-friendly.

Document Type:
A long guide in paragraph form. Similar to a magazine article or blog post online.

Design/format:
The document will be divided into sections each focusing on different aspects of strength training. There will be an introduction, background knowledge, nutrition, programming for strength, and summary section. There will be diagrams, pictures, and referral links to make the ideas presented in the document stick in the reader’s head.

Citation Style:
APA citations as well as referral links

MA, I like that you selected an area that you have experience with.

Might I suggest narrowing in a few ways? Taking on both diet and gym routines might exceed the 7-10 page limit. Start scoping this out know and let me know if you will take on both communication tasks.

Another way to narrow is by audience. For example, many women do not think that weights or resistance is for them. You could narrow the focus to that audience, with your goal to persuade by excellent arrangement of persuasive information.

Another audience option is to think of peri-menopause / menopausal /post-menopausal women -- weight lifting or resistance is even more important for these people. You could open with Ruth Bader Ginsberg's gym routine.

Finally, you could address the problem of weight resources at gyms as a sort of "mainland"; how can we make this gym activity more inclusive.

Looking forward to this guide.

Mb,

Thanks for the feedback, I agree that complete guide on diet and exercise for everyone wouldn't fit in 7-10 pages. I've decided to narrow my audience to women interested in strength training. I've also decided to narrow the focus to just weightlifting technique, programming, and general advice. While I'm unfamiliar with this audience for the subject matter, I think it would be cool to learn something new rather than stay in my comfort zone.
