Beginning: tell dramatic story of turtle coming onto beach and laying eggs, eggs come up and get confused by light and die. Introduce how this is one of the few environmental problems that we know exactly how to fix and it isn't even very expensive.

Middle: present research proving that the lighting is causing the sea turtle deaths and explain why it happens to a lay audience. Show what other counties have done to reduce their light pollution and how it has affected nesting success. Discuss the tourism benefits for a town that has an active nesting sea turtle population.

End: Give links to buy dark sky association approved lighting fixtures and bulbs. Give instructions on how to modify existing lighting by redirecting and shielding it from the beach.

LOGOS: tens of thousands of sea turtles hatchlings die before reaching adulthood. facts about how changing the lighting has effected survival rates.

PATHOS: sea turtles are a charismatic species that people rally around to protect; being able to help them though the simple act of changing some lightbulbs will make people feel good.

ETHOS: credibility of studies cited.

STRUCTURE: I will tell the story of a turtles journey, present research, persuade people to care and take action, and then give them the links to buy different lighting.

GOAL: persuade beachfront home owners to retrofit their outdoor lighting to reduce light pollution and consequently increase the number of sea turtle hatchlings that make it to the ocean.
