FINAL PROJECT:Structures and Arguments > HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa

Beginning: Transmission and disease population data from WHO, give scenario of example of patient in Africa with disease to hook reader.

Middle: Give statistics about the percentage of people in sub-Saharan Africa currently living with HIV/AIDS and those who are at risk. Presence in recent years despite policy. Look at all regions with data from WHO.


End: Suggest future policy or improvements to policy to decrease rates of AIDS transmission and decrease stigma of AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Logos: Quote direct data and statistics of proliferance of HIV/AIDS and increase in recent years
Pathos: Case study of a patient from Ghana with AIDS
Ethos: Cite credibility of sources and organizations like the NIH and WHO and prominent researchers in the field.

STRUCTURE (from begining, middle, end): I will use two structures: 1) Describe the current scenario in Sub-Saharan Africa, including figures and statistics about disease trends and numbers of current infections and transmissions, including analysis of whether current policy has visibly changed trends of disease transmission and 2) Informational Guide on basic methods of disease prevention and treatment, including description of stages of the disease for those already living with HIV/AIDS or are caregivers.

GOAL: To inform staff at Doctors Without Borders about current situation in Sub-Saharan Africa regarding HIV/AIDS, including updates of transmission rates in recent years and updates regarding current health care policy and the effectiveness of this policy. Propose amendments to policy to decrease rates of transmission. to provide a fast and easy pamphlet to be distributed to citizens in Sub-Saharan Africa to promote HIV/AIDS precautions and educate citizens about band treatment methods.

This can work, A, especially if you consider that you write the first draft as if you are an intern for them. You can -- at the end -- outline briefly what the policy options would be. However, best for your authority and the context, you can summarize two or three policy sets from places like he UN, the World Health Organization, and perhaps the US State Department.

About the sections you note, I am a bit unclear about how this fits with your audience description. Do you mean to provide handouts to caregivers, from the care team of MSF?
