FINAL PROJECT:Structures and Arguments > A lesson on Friendly, Food Production Microbes: Teaching after the AP Exams

Beginning: First person cover letter addressed to high school AP biology teacher explaining the reason for creating the lesson plan (students do no work after AP exams, and they still should learn things) and goals for the lesson plan (keep students engaged and wanting to learn)

Middle: Create a lesson plan that uses a few educational theories or concepts to help students want to keep learning, even after their tests are over. Supplementary documents like handout will be in this section.

End: Use two-four cases as examples to support that students will learn better through these theories and explain the limitations to these theories/ practices current teachers use.

LOGOS: teacher databases, articles on microbes (topic), maybe a journal article or two.

PATHOS: Use more first person to keep students feeling engaged and like they themselves are related to the lesson.

ETHOS: credibility of current high school and AP biology teachers who share their stories and resources online to help others starting out.

STRUCTURE: I will use 1) a cover letter for the introduction 2) a lesson plan with different sections 3) handout or PowerPoint 3) curation of different multimedia links 4) a debrief as the conclusion as to why I chose certain parts for my lesson plan

GOAL: persuade my previous teacher that this lesson plan is a good lesson plan to keep students engaged in the classroom and learning after the AP test.

V -- lots of good content here, including clear use of active learning, a newer approach to teaching science.

However, remind me of your content: yeast and bread? yeast and beer/wine/mead? Remember, I can give you a buttermilk cheese recipe that you can adapt with directions and use as an experiment.

Will you share with your AP science teachers, from long ago? I hope you will.
