FINAL PROJECT:Structures and Arguments > The transition from High School to College

Beginning: hook the audience with a quote from a fellow student describing one thing they wish they had known before entering college that their parents or high school counselors did not tell them. I will identify common mistakes freshmen students make. I will also comment on how sometimes expectations of college does not correlate with reality.

Middle: use multiple articles to provide insight about college transition

End: will summarize the article’s points and add quotes from other students who have read my research and provide thoughts about how my information would have been beneficial to their transition; suggest further readings for audience.

LOGOS:
1.) identify the common mistakes freshmen students make
2.) identify how to ensure that my audience does not make these same mistakes
3.) explain how to manage stress

PATHOS: The transition can be very stressful for students, which can lead to poor outcomes, such as bad health. My goal is to limit this by adding some humor.

ETHOS: I am a senior college student who had a pretty smooth transition from high school to college with very few bumps.

STRUCTURE: identify the problems and provide solutions

GOAL: to ensure that students have a seamless transition from high school to college to excel in academics, be socially active, and maintain a productive lifestyle.

Hi R,

Sorry I brushed past this.

For your document, your tone and voice are important here. Think of all the advice from grownups that can be overwhelming and lack what you have:

peer to peer communication, with your two years or so of lived experience.

You might close with a list of sorts: Ten things I wish I had Known.

I encourage you to use the GroupMe for quotes or some of these ten things. You can source the GroupMe discussion! Think of that ethos -- from a sample of about 60 juniors/seniors at the very school your audience aims at.

Title? Something with Terp in it?
