FINAL PROJECT:Structures and Arguments > New Tyrannosauroid: How it impacts what is known about the Tyrant Lizard King

Beginning: Hook the audience with a narrative about T.rex. Put that into the context of the evolution of the T.rex. Introduce how this find of the new Teratophoneus curriei provides greater context into the morphological evolution of the tyrannosauroid clade.

Middle: Provide a background on what traits define members of the tyrannosauroid clade. Provide recent examples of the morphological origins of the tyrannosauroids and recently added tyrannosauroids added to the clade and why they were added. Discuss the formation the fossils were found in and explain how it relates to the ecology that Teratophoneus curriei evolved in. Explain how Teratophoneus curriei is a unique species and not a younger version of existing tyrannosauroids from the region during the Campanian.

End: End with a discussion of Teratophoneus curriei placement in the tyrannosauroid phylogeny and what this information could tell us about the evolution and origins of the T.rex

Logos: 1.) Information about how the scientific community defines the tyrannosauroid clade 2.) Discuss finding in Mexico and Mongolia that further develop the morphology of the tyrannosauroid clade 3.) Provide information about the Kaiparowits Formation and the ecology of the region at the time 4.) Use dinosaur ontogeny to explain how Teratophoneus curriei is a unique species

Ethos: Credibility of the authors of my sources such as Dr. Thomas D. Carr and Dr. Stephen Brusatte

Pathos: Appealing to the public about their fascination with dinosaurs and how cool they are

Structure: I will use a lemon structure with an IMRAD format. I will open with an introduction to the findings and why they are important and then have three body paragraphs providing a background for the analysis and two body paragraphs to discuss and analyze the data with a conclusion in the final paragraph based on the data and background presented.

Goal: Provide information about the recent find of Teratophoneus curriei, how it fits into the tyrannosauroid clade, and how this impacts the phylogeny of the clade.

C, this can work in several ways, depending on your audience. Let's make sure that you tell me which audience you will prepare this for.

I suspect that you are not quite conversant with the literature to be a paleontologist yet. Though, this could work as a grad school seminar paper.

I am unclear about whether you will use a cladistic approach (since the 90s) OR if you will look also at the older phylogenetic approach. Let's chat briefly.
