FINAL PROJECT:Structures and Arguments > Healthier Living with Houseplants
M, a deceptively simply guide for healthy living. You can note that people do not think of indoor air pollution, due to invisibility and no scent.
You might look in the research data bases via library for the several publications of the Society for Economic Botany, as they will likely have a compelling piece or two.

Beginning:
-Hook: Fact about the amount of time people spend indoors on average, brief mention of VOCs that people are exposed to
-Propose houseplants as a solution to improve air quality and improve stress
-Define air purifying plants, VOCs, and stress levels (ways measured)
Middle: Use research (adapted for lay audience) to explain
-Common pollutants and effects on indoor air quality
-What houseplants are able to remove + effect on pulmonary and immune health
-Effect of plants on stress levels
End: Mainly a “What to do” document
-Weight the costs and benefits of owning houseplants
-Explain some common plants and how to care for them
LOGOS:
1. Data on what plants remove
2. Research about positive effects of improved air quality on pulmonary and immune health
2. Data on how plants reduce stress levels (reduce heart rate & blood pressure, improve mood)
PATHOS: appeal to the want to live healthier, also mention study where reported moods with plants were improved
ETHOS: credibility of well-know, commonly-cited studies
STRUCTURE: I will use two structures: 3) Support a user (mostly at end) and 5) Divide complex information into reasonable parts
GOAL: persuade/advise about benefits of houseplants to improve air quality and health
