FINAL PROJECT:Structures and Arguments > A College Student's Guide to Obtaining a Summer Research Internship
How about a few inspirational quotes from scientists more generally about the beginnings of their research career? I can give you a case about Thomas Brock and his u/g student Freeze.
Also, look at this 2019 article in NATURE by u/g researcher.

Beginning: hook readers with a statement that establishes the significance of a summer research internship. Perhaps include a true narrative of a notable or very successful individual who was inspired by their internship to pursue a successful career, or statistics about the number of people that found research crucial to their matriculation to professional schools.
Middle: divide the paper into three parts. The first part will include information about how to determine the type of internship and field of study to look for based on individual interests. The second part will consist of a section that details how to effectively apply to internship programs and how to contact researchers independently, provide the proper materials for consideration, and construct a professional and effective email. The third part will describe how to get the most out of the internship experience and maximize the potential benefits following the conclusion of the internship.
End: re-establish the impact and importance of the internship and describe what to do following the internship, including how to follow-up on the internship experience, present the research, and apply for awards.
Logos: statistics about the number of students that matriculate to professional school or successfully apply to jobs that have research experience,
Pathos: visualization of a successful career or professional school application due to sufficient research experience; finding a meaningful, personally satisfying career path through research experiences from a summer research internship; helping people with biomedical research that has a positive impact on health
Ethos: credibility of the sources of the advice, as well as the credibility of case examples of successful internship experiences that resulted in individuals pursuing successful careers, or professional school applications.
Structure: First establish the significance and importance of a summer research internship, then describe how to determine what to do before applying, how to apply, and what to do following the internship.
Goal: to establish the importance of a summer research internship and explain how to successful obtain one
