FINAL PROJECT:Structures and Arguments > The Coffee Price Crisis

Beginning: Hook the audience with an interesting fact: coffee prices are at their lowest point in 10 years and production costs greatly exceed the revenues that growers earn. Introduce the International Coffee Organization (data source), the coffee growing cycle, and the coffee futures market. Preview the methods for data analysis that will be taught in the tutorial, as well as the findings.

Middle: There will be five main sections – data curation and cleaning, exploratory data analysis and visualization, hypothesis testing, and message/insight curation. Each section will use the ICO datasets to teach the relevant skills.

End: Present the results of the research in a business context. Reiterate the methods used in the tutorial. The primary focus of the document is “how to do,” with the secondary focus being on the results of the analysis.

Logos: The use of statistical methods and the analysis of their effectiveness.

Pathos: The real effect that the coffee price crisis has on growers, as well as personal motivation to learn data science skills.

Ethos: My background as a computer science and economics student. The document itself also acts as a source of ethos because the code is shown and can be executed to verify correctness.

Goal: This document will expose readers to steps of the data science pipeline as well as methods for economic analysis. They should be able to follow each part of the notebook and repeat it on their own.

B, this project brings together your two majors in really good ways. The "crisis" in your title might be re-thought a bit. Is this a crisis for all players? I would think that some buyers are relieved at least temporarily about low prices. However, that crisis for growers can shape the future of crop size and quality. Low prices sustained means that growers might leave market.

I am really pleased that you can include Econ analysis in your annotations.

Think short paragraphs, though. You can "punt" to larger Econ discussions by using referral links. Can you hotline within JN annotations?
