FINAL PROJECT: Abstract and Reader's Reponse > Pre-professional Health Guide on becoming a Physician Assistant
Often pre-health offices at large universities do not provide appropriate support for students interested in pursuing a career as a physician assistant. This document is designed to guide and assist students at the University of Maryland pursuing a career in this occupation. By explaining the application process and the requirements needed, I want students to feel more at ease with their decision. There are approximately 190 accredited physician assistant programs in the United States and by helping students narrow down their program of choice, I will be analyzing a couple of them. Physician Assistant’s are a necessity in the healthcare field. The Bureau Labor of Statistics predicts about a thirty percent increase in demand for physician assistant’s. This rate is nearly twice the increase compared to normal job growth, providing a promising job outlook for future PA’s. With specialties, such as pediatrics, I hope my guide is able to assist future PA’s with confidence as they begin their occupational journey and to feel just as praised and supported as future doctors and dentists.
