FINAL PROJECT: Abstract and Reader's Reponse > A Guide to Volunteering at the Health Center Pharmacy at UMD

ABSTRACT: The Health Center Pharmacy at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) offers a variety of pharmaceutical services to UMD students, faculty, staff, and their immediate family members. These services include dispensing prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications and products, education of customers regarding proper medication usage, and potential side effects and dangerous drug interactions. Student volunteers will have the opportunity to receive and dispense prescriptions and assist customers under direct supervision of a pharmacist. This manual is designed as a training and reference guide for use by both new and experienced student volunteers and can be separated into two modules. The first part of this manual introduces student volunteers to the pharmacy profession. The second part of the manual details some of the policies and standardized procedures at the Health Center Pharmacy. The goal of this manual is to inform pre-pharmacy students of the profession and to make their decisions clearer about the career. This manual is also designed to support new and current student volunteers at the workplace.

READER’S PROFILE: I imagine both students volunteers at the pharmacy and general students who are interested in the profession would benefit from reading this manual. This manual might also be beneficial to the pre-health advising office at UMD.

READER’S RESPONSE:
Student volunteers: This manual provides a lot of useful information regarding volunteering at the pharmacy! I feel more confident at my job and I will make sure to go back to this manual when problems arise.
Students who are interested in pharmacy profession: I have not heard about other fields of pharmacy besides working at CVS before reading this manual! It gives me information on pharmacy school requirements and application process. Good! I wish the pre-health advising office had this manual laying around a few years ago so I could get specific information on applying to pharmacy schools.

Not really a resistant reader, but I think what you have imagine reflects the typical reader.

What are the names of your section heads? Writing them now can help propel the document forward.
