FINAL PROJECT: Abstract and Reader's Reponse > A Guide to Working as a Dental Intern

ABSTRACT: I am writing workplace documentation for a dental intern at Dr. R’s dental office. Dr. R’s dental office is a private general practice that provides orthodontic therapy, periodontics therapy, and endodontic therapy. The way that I will write this workplace documentation is by starting with a table of contents. This will be broken down into six sections. First section will be a background of the office. The second section will entail specifics about the three different therapies we provide. Next section will entail general and specific responsibilities of the dental intern. In this section I will provide the 3-4 procedures and set-up layouts that are necessary. Next section will entail how to be prepared daily, for instance what one should wear, good breath, clean nails, how to prepare the goody bags etc. Another section will be about infection control guidelines and how to protect the office, the patients, and yourself. Finally the last section will be a glossary of terms that are essential to know as a dental intern.

READER PROFILE: My readers include Dr. R and his colleagues and the dental interns at his dental office.

READERS RESPONSE: My dental intern reader would not have a risky response because this is benefiting them. Moreover, if the dental office is providing it to the intern then there is credibility to my work because the dental office considers my information correct. The reader that I am more cautious of is Dr. R. He is going to be very detailed in his reading of my document to make sure I am presenting his office in a good way and that my information is correct.

- Do you think that I need to add any more sections to my paper?

P, after Dr. R reads, you might add the sections he notes. He is really your primary audience. I hope you will share this with him.

What titles will you use for the section heads? Writing them now can help propel the document forward.
