FINAL PROJECT: Abstract and Reader's Reponse > A Guide to Adobe Illustrator Basics

Abstract:
This guide will attempt to give the reader a better understanding of vector file types and a basic explanation of several tasks within the Adobe Illustrator interphase. The guide is formatted to be simple for beginning users who may not be used to the steep learning curve. Official tutorials and directions given by Adobe may be too technical for some users. As a learning graphic designer I offer some input for several skills I have knowledge of. For skills/areas where my knowledge is lacking this guide directs readers to several excellent text and video tutorials. The guide will slowly introduce the reader to the basics starting from a general overview of Illustrator before moving into detail on specific tools and techniques. The point of this guide is not to give a holistic overview on Adobe Illustrator but focus on key points that beginning users may struggle with.

Reader Profile:
Familiar with basic computer tasks, but little to no knowledge of vector graphics or AI interphase.

Readers Response:

G -- one way to address this reader is to say that the power of the program requires a complex interface. Learning a few basics will enable the user to harness this power.

Which three or four skills will you teach? By now, we need those specifics in an abstract.

What citation type will you use?
