FINAL PROJECT: Abstract and Reader's Reponse > A Guide to Being Vegan at UMD

This vegan guide gives students at UMD information about how to be a vegan college student in both dorms and apartments. It will lead off with information about what tools are helpful in a vegan kitchen, with a basic list for dorms and a more extensive one for apartments. Then it will talk about how to stock a vegan pantry and what are some basics that both dorm and apartment students should have on hand. Next will be a list of vegan students can eat in the UMD area, and what restaurants to specifically avoid because they do not have any options. Included in this list will be places on campus such as the coop or taco ball. Then there will be a list of what students can make in their dorm rooms based on the groceries and tools listed previously. A list of what students can make quickly and easily in apartments based on the tools and food listed previously will follow. Finally, there will be a guide to find support from the vegan community. This will include popular people on social media, apps that offer information for vegans, and student organizations on campus that vegan students can get involved with.

Readers Profile: I imagine a student that is not vegan but is reading the guide.

Response: I get that eating more vegetables is healthy, but this seems like overkill. Vegan food must be so expensive with all of that produce; it is simply not worth it. Besides, where do they get their protein? Meat and dairy is an important part of a healthy diet, I mean it is on the food pyramid. It must suck to be vegan when they are hanging out with their friends. Eating out involves a lot of salads, ick! I wish there was a way to eat more like this without being a full vegan.

M, how can you support this reader? Invite to eat vegan on odd days, for general health tasks that do ask us to eat more plants?

I like the idea of social media section. Can you divide into
fb
instagram
pinterest collections
blogs

OR is the best done by the creator, since they will use social media in integrated ways?

Who is your go-to on vegan inspiration or inspo? I can mention one who is controversial? Dooce had a paleo phase, then a vegan phase, then....
