FINAL PROJECT: Abstract and Reader's Reponse > Annotated Timeline of Upcoming NASA Missions

Abstract (WC=134): It is important for the public to be informed of upcoming missions to space, in order to maintain public interest in science and space travel. In this document, I hope to convey information about upcoming missions as well as to create a sense of wonder and interest in the reader. I will write about interesting upcoming missions from now until the 2020s. I plan to write about the James Webb Space Telescope, plans for a manned mission to Mars, as well as other interesting missions. I will list information about how the missions will work, as well as the goals of the missions and provide context about the missions and the scientific goals. Through, my summaries of the missions, I hope to create interest in learning more about the missions and the space program.

Reader’s Profile: A difficult reader might be someone who has no interest in space travel, finds it boring, or thinks that it has no application to their daily life.

Reader’s Response: I’m not interested in space travel. It might be cool, but I don’t really see why we need to spend so much money on going to space when we have so many problems on Earth. I don’t think going to space helps ordinary people in their day to day lives.

R -- you might want to note that much of this work is for pure joy in adventure and knowledge construction. For this, perhaps find some quotes to include in some strategic places.

John Mather
Neil de Grasse Tyson
Katherine Johnson

Others?

Try to follow a similar pattern in each of the missions you describe. This will help unify the document. Provide links so that readers can go the NASA site directly for more information.
