FINAL PROJECT: Abstract and Reader's Reponse > Dinezen: A New UMD Dining App

ABSTRACT: This document establishes a proposed framework for the Dinezen software team to follow. Working with a team to create software is a daunting task that becomes even more difficult when team members are geographically separated. For this summer to be successful, we must have aligned goals, plans, and design strategies. This document addresses two major issues that we will face as a team. The first section will be a proposal for which technologies and design patterns will be, in my opinion, the most beneficial to the team and the product. Our team will work more efficiently if we are all in full agreement before beginning work. This section will discuss design specifications for each platform, as well as the division between the backend and frontend services. The second section addresses ways that our team can communicate. It is important for teams to have many forms of clear and open communication. Throughout the summer new goals will need to be set and new problems may arise. Many software packages exist to make these tasks easier and more efficient. In this section, I compare the features of these packages and make a suggestion for which ones we should use. My goal with this document is that after every team member reads it, we will need only one more meeting before beginning production.

Reader Profile: Teammate that has the same background as me, but hasn't thought about the project much yet.

Reader's Response: Thank you for starting to plan out our work for this summer. I agree that this is a large task that requires planning and communication. I appreciate your technical overview and I will begin looking into some of these topics more in depth when I have time. I really like your idea about using special types of electronic communication to make organization easier. However, I am concerned that too many forms of communication may actually cause more confusion. Now I have a much better idea of what we are doing and how we are doing it. I feel ready and excited to start coding.

Voice: Mix of 3rd and 1st person. 3rd person for facts, 1st person for plans and goals.

Citation: In text citations using links. Maybe in text citations using numbers[1] and a APA work cited for printed versions.

N -- good plan. I agree on the hyperlinks within the document, based on your headings. This means that you will put an outline in the beginning, also hyperlinked.

Be sure to keep me in the loop. We could arrange user testing in a beta version next year, with fall Engl390 students.
