FINAL PROJECT: Abstract and Reader's Reponse > East Asian Studies Post-Graduation Guide

Abstract: College students are constantly searching for career options and information that will impact their future. The University of Maryland offers a Certificate in East Asian Studies, but many students don’t know what it is or how to use it. This guide explains several routes for students attending the University of Maryland, College Park who complete a Certificate in East Studies and intend to go on to graduate school in the future. Several careers in the fields of film/media studies as well as international relations are expanded upon. Then, the graduate programs at 4 different schools(Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, UCLA, and University of Michigan) are analyzed based on each specific career goal. This analysis will include research opportunities, coursework, and extracurricular activities which will contribute to the student’s progress. Finally, this guide will highlight financial and job market data for these career paths and showcase flexible options for students coming from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Reader Profile: Someone who is interested in East Asian culture and language, but doesn’t know much about relevant career options.

Reader Response: Hmm, the Certificate in East Asian Studies seems relevant to my interests. There’s a lot of useful information on graduate schools here, but the guide didn’t focus enough on options for people who lack experience by the time they finish their undergraduate degree. There is also not enough emphasis on career paths that do not require a graduate degree, since many students are not willing to spend more time and money on further education when they could be entering the workforce.

J, as we discussed, you could put a section in the guide on internship or volunteer work.

Also, be sure to include the logos of numbers: types of jobs in government and business sectors where AA knowledge is key....

Type of citation?

Nice ABT statement there. :)
