FINAL PROJECT: Abstract and Reader's Reponse > EMF: The Reality

Abstract: More and more people are now owners of a smart phone Along with the increase of smart phone usage, laptops have become one of the most essential technological advances of the past decade. Enter into a university library and you will struggle to find one person without a personal laptop there. The general public has grown more and more comfortable with these portable technological advances but has become more and more fearful of radiation spread by power plants, power lines, and transformers. Many people have made housing decisions based on proximity to these specific objects. This paper will explore EMF and the reality of the radiation emitted by both our personal electronic devices and larger objects such as power lines. By exploring case studies and research about the effect of EMF on a molecular level, it is clear that the danger of EMF is not as high as many make it seem. There have been studies suggesting a link between EMF and harm to our cells. But, there is currently not enough evidence to suggest that this is very damaging to our bodies. There have not been enough studies done to confirm that EMF is a cause of extensive damage and therefore as physicians it is critical to let patients know that this link is not present.

Reader’s Profile: The reader of this document will be physicians looking for more information regarding EMF and the reality behind its radiation. These readers will be looking for a quick way to gain information from a variety of sources about the reality of EMF radiation. By reading this document, they will be able to answer many questions that patents may ask them about EMF radiation without creating a sense of panic. Physicians will be able to provide patients with the right context and appropriate response.

Reader’s Response: This document serves as a great guide for me to learn about EMF in a quick way. In my busy life as a physician, I lack the time to do this research myself and think it is a great resource for me to quickly learn about EMF. Through this paper, I was able to quickly get information and even have a list of FAQ that I was able to hand to my patients if they had any questions after leaving my office. As physicians, you have made our job easier and lowered the panic in the world about EMF radiation.
