FINAL PROJECT: Abstract and Reader's Reponse > Organizing and Leading Gove's Quest, a Student Volunteering Organization

Abstract:
Marketing a new student group can be especially challenging considering the wide variety of options available to market a group, especially at the point of a leadership change. And, this can be overwhelming, particularly when our target audience can be found in a variety of schools and disciplines. But, very few resources are available for students to prepare for leadership transitions and maintain membership. Therefore, this guide provides a mission statement, constitution, marketing plan, and delegation plan in order to inform future leaders of Gove’s Quest, my women’s health volunteering student organization, about the experience and information used by previous leaders in order to sustain membership in the organization. I will begin this document set by establishing the setting on campus for student organizations and the odds that they face on such a highly populated campus. I will furthermore highlight the unique quality of my student organization in preparing students for careers in health fields and how leaders of the group can find the resources needed in order to achieve the goals of the organization. Lastly, I will finish with organization-specific tips that are focused on our current community partners.

Reader Response:
This is a pretty useful guide. I will probably revisit each of these documents in about a years time. Managing a leadership team filled with busy students is really difficult but I plan to use this guide as a starting point, knowing that I can take into account the adjustments for the different personalities I deal with. One issue I see is that this document is not universally applicable but since this document exists in a google document, I can always make adjustments to it for future leaders.
