ABSTRACT: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) projects our current food shortage problem will only worsen as population continues to grow and the environment declines. In order to satisfy the expected demand for food, we need more efficient and environmentally-friendly sources of protein. Insects may be able to satisfy this demand as a new food source. The FAO has already confirmed the efficiency and nutritional value of insects, meaning they may be a possible solution to rising food scarcity. A common misconception many of us have is that entomophagy (the practice of eating insects) in developing areas is driven by need and survival, but in reality, insects are sometimes eaten as staple foods or even delicacies in certain parts of the world, such as Malaysia. And if Malaysia were not close enough, there are even renowned chefs in the Western world cooking up all kinds of dishes using insects. Celebrities and chefs alike are endorsing insects as a viable food source and showing the public that there is nothing to fear. Entomophagy would be very difficult to implement due to general disgust and misconceptions, but even so, there are small steps anybody can take to get started. Though once considered a novel food, insects may very well become a staple in the future.

READER'S PROFILE: Readers may acknowledge the benefits on eating insects, but also recognize that implementing their consumption into modern society would be very difficult.
READER'S RESPONSE: Insects do seem to be beneficial for the environment and overall food security. However, I do not see governments endorsing entomophagy in the foreseeable future, so such change must be made by the people. But given how ingrained current protein sources are, the necessary change also may not occur soon despite growing food scarcity, which is a shame.
Thesis/problem statement remains unchanged. VOICE: expository paper, but with the informal feel of an article outside of sections with statistics. CITATION: in sections using statistics, APA citations will be included in the bibliography. Other than that, referral links will be used.
