Post Here: Definition Topic/Audiences/Exigence > Poplar Island, MD A Restoration Success

Topic: Poplar Island, MD is a restoration project occurring in the Chesapeake Bay. For the past 2 decades construction has continued on the 500 acre island lead by the United States Army Corp of Engineers. There are many small news and website articles on the subject along with some lengthy government documents. I will use these articles to create an informational packet to inform those that are more interested in the project than just a news article.

Technical Audience: Biologists, Government officials.

Lay Audience: The interested Public; readers of scientific literature.

Exigence: Island restoration has emerged as a way to mediate the effects of erosion. Poplar island was eroded down to less than an acre. Today it serves as a nesting ground for many waterbird species, as well as, a wintering ground for many species of ducks. It is important to relay this information to lawmakers that are funding these projects, so they realize what a success they are. I will use documents from the EPA, USFWS, USGS, and MES.
