Refining your thesis/problem statement

in ABT format.  Enter yours here, in class.  Add initials at end.  Note:  your ABT statement will appear in the first three paragraphs of your document to announce the information and "job" of the document.

For Monday, we have an in-class post to me about structure/arguments.  See examples here.

Have your collected all your documents for this class?  You need to turn in them in a final folder.

Beginning: hook audience with narrative of Angelina Jolie, present brief definitions of Genetic Counseling, set up problem: not everybody in my generation knows about this innovative, multidisciplinary career, or its grad school admissions process.

Middle: Lay out admissions process, findings of Bureau of Labor Statistics, quotes from genetic counseling students

End: Use two-four cases as examples to illustrate what Genetic Counselors do from the Journal of Genetic Counseling. Stress the emergence of the field, how there are expected to me a lot more within the next ten years

LOGOS: 1) data from Bureau of Labor Statistics 2) Online documents from various G.C Masters Programs outlining the Grad School admissions 3) documentation of research on how to counsel patients on tough decisions

PATHOS: Case Studies from the Journal of Genetic Counseling, showing how GC’s help relieve human suffering

ETHOS: credibility of current students in the program, information from the National Society of Genetic Counseling (NGO) site, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Grad School proram sites

STRUCTURE: A stack of documents

GOAL: Educate people my age (and my mom) about this profession and the grad school admissions process
